My name is Justin and I've been living in Southern California (Oxnard, now Camarillo) for the past few years with my wife and our two rescue pooches Jersey and Jackson. After having lived my first few decades in New Jersey and New York I'm still seeking decent Italian food in Ventura County. If you happen to know a good place, I'd appreciate a point in the right direction.
After receiving my B.A. in English at California State University Channel Islands, I've been working on a Masters in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. It's a slight departure from my Creative Writing emphasis, but I do love me some books and the tenets of Library Science (particularly the dissemination of information and the preservation of cultural heritage) called to me. Much of Uncontrolled Vocabulary consists of requisite postings of class assignments, though I do toss in some relevant asides now and then.
As it stands, I’m in my next to last semester at SJSU. I’m “specializing” in Digital Services and Emerging Technologies, owing to my love of all things information and technology, as well as an understanding that the services expected of libraries (and thus, their roles at large) are evolving.
Currently, I’m working as a page at the Oxnard Public Library. It’s not an actual librarian position, but it's great experience and the OPL is a wonderful work environment. I also do occasional freelance writing for a weekly local newspaper.
